My latest diagnosis - Upper crossed syndrome

I have been having chronic headaches and muscle tension around neck and shoulder area for over a year now. Regular chiropractic visits have been very helpful. But the headaches and neckache always came back though and bothered me.

Now that we have moved to Mississauga, my chiro from Toronto referred me to a new chiro (her friend). She came with very high recommendation. After much hesitation and some more neckaches, I took up on her referral and went to see her. After a scan, some test and xrays later, She has found the problem. Chronic Upper crossed syndrome! A funny name just to say I can't keep my head over my shoulders.

Because of my bad postural habits while using the laptop and computer, the spinal cord in the neck area has had some damage. While it should be like '(', mine more like a '\'. I'd have to go through chiropractic care more often. Once we see some recovery, then some physio exercises, traction and after that some help from posture pump. All this over the course of a year.

While I'm not thrilled about the problem that I have, I'm glad we have found the root cause of the issue and have started treating it. So glad that the insurance will cover part of these treatments. And yes, I like my new chiro too. Good vibes, eh!

Now slowly learning to keep my head over my shoulders and tuck my chin in.

Wow, I have never heard of this condition. At least you have a diagnosis though, and now you can treat it! Even better, from a holistic perspective, you know the cause of it so you can try to heal it and prevent it from reoccurring. I'm glad you made this discovery now so you can get better.

Re: organic produce from your other post- have you thought of CSA or even organic delivery services? They tend to be cheaper than buying organic produce at expensive health food stores.

Thanks Hayley. yeah , I 'm glad I now know why the headaches and all that pain. And now I can get help to treat the cause instead of the symptom.

The CSA sounds like a great idea. Let me look around for the options I have here. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry to hear about that Kay! But glad to know you've figured out the root-cause and that you're in good hands. I wish the insurance in the US covered naturopath and chiro visits :( I'm slowly losing faith in conventional medicine and physicians. All they want to do is treat symptoms with drugs but never talk about preventive care. Sorry about my rambling. Take care.

Thanks Mamatha... I was really surprised that the private insurance here in Canada covers naturopath, Chiro, physio and all that stuff. It's not much coverage, but stil la great help.

I hope they start covering in the US as well. Esp Considering the very high insurance payments. The ironic thing is that these services are preventative t=in nature and will save big bills for the insurance company in the long run.

Always a plus to know what the root cause is, but the best thing is if there is a cure for it! Good luck, Kay, with your new chiro. I hope you get pain-free soon!

Kay, you wont believe me.. I have a similar problem.. Instead of a '(' I am between '|' and '\'.. but I didn't know the name of the syndrome :D I was visiting my chiropractor regularly - I got the idea into my head bcoz of you(I mean reading your posts as to how to find a good chiropractor.. Sooo many thanks to you, really!)
So after 3-4 months of sessions - about 3 a week, I am doing a lot better.. Try finding out about Denneroll from your Chiro - http://denneroll.com/, it helped my neck recover well... Hope you get back soon.

hallo, so nice to find your blog. I am wondering what kind of exercise and how often (also how many minutes per day) you do.
I to have altered cervical spine position and also I do suffer from daily headaches. I would really appreciate your advice.
Thank you very much.
best regards,
Ida

Thanks sunita, Sorry to hear about your neck. And Glad you are seeing a chiro.

Hello Ida, I haven't started the physiotherapy yet. Just chiropractic care right now, so no exercises. So I can't comment on that. Even otherwise I shouldn't and wouldn't suggest exercises for such serious issues. Would kindly suggest to see a good chiropractor.
